Okay, listen—Halloween 2025 is right around the corner, and I’ve been saving this list of scariest movies for you. These aren’t just random horror titles I Googled last minute. Every single movie here, I’ve actually watched. Alone. Lights off. Regretted it halfway through.
Most of these films will make you anxious and might even give you nightmares. And let me tell you, I am more of a supernatural horror guy, so all these films have supernatural elements.
Let me tell you more!
Incantation
One of the best horror films I have watched from Taiwan. It makes you a part of the curse that the characters of the film are facing. Basically, the movie opens up with a psychological interaction with the audience, which makes you feel as if the characters here can break the fourth wall.
And the whole ambience, storyline, designs of the supernatural entities, exploring ancient curses, etc., make the whole vibe of the film scary as hell. At one point, I started feeling like what if the curse actually spreads to me. And let me tell you, I ain’t no overthinker when it comes to horror movies. BUT IT MADE ME THINK AND KEEP MY LIGHTS ON!

As Above, So Below
This takes you deeper into the catacombs beneath Paris. You follow a team of explorers, who in their exploration, end up knocking on the doors of hell. The whole thing builds anxiety. So, while there are some moments of surprise scares, it’s the slow build-up that keeps you on edge. Really love the whole dark handheld camera vibe it got, which can easily counter top horror movies like Paranormal Activity.

Good Boy
So, while it might not be too scary for the veterans habitual with horror movies, but Indy, the goodest boy who is also the main protagonist of the movie, does some amazing acting. And yes, the movie is all about Indy’s understanding of supernatural horror events happening around him, and everything is shot so beautifully. Almost all human characters are always out of the focus, and as an audience, you also explore and understand events happening around Indy, as he does.
So, a little advice? Don’t expect everything to make sense. It’s a film that makes you worried about the dog and his fate in this grim sequence of events. It’s packed with innocence, love, and loyalty.

Dabbe: The Possession
One of the scariest and most disturbing Turkish horror movies I came across, Dabe: The Possession, is a great Halloween to keep around. The movie starts with Ebru (Irmak Örnek) meeting a local Shaman famous for chasing ghosts away.
She is a psychology researcher and doesn’t believe in ghosts. Coincidentally, her childhood friend Kubra gets possessed by a Jinn and kills her husband before their wedding. This unfolds a dramatic sequence of events leading to a setup that will shake your soul. The film offers everything from black magic to the village of Jinns. The whole spooky ambience will keep you on edge for sure. Give it a shot!

When Evil Lurks
It has some scary as hell, but also a few gross moments. Overall, it’s a whole package of making the audience uncomfortable as well as scared. The story is also great, packed with some of the great acting from the Argentinian cinema.
The plot follows a small Spanish town that is haunted by an evil presence moving from one body to another. But it’s not a typical case of possession that can be resolved through exorcism. There’s a sinister plot going on that has been launched by the afterworld.
The movie is unfiltered. So, if you don’t like films where kids can be presented in horrific and scary ways, skip it.

V/H/S Halloween
Another part of Shudder’s most famous V/H/S series, Halloween comes back with all the glory Shudder has to offer. If you’re new to the series, each V/H/S presentation from Shudder consists of multiple horror tales. This time as well, there are tons of Halloween-themed tapes that will keep you on edge. My favorite story is the one with the mama ghost. And it’s not as wholesome as the Mama movie; it’s gorier, scarier, and darker.
Again, this series also doesn’t shy away from sacrificing kids on screen for a good story. So, watch it at your own caution. But I can assure you, it’s one of the best horror films you will come across in 2025.

Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum
I love this one. What’s better than evil spirits and an asylum? Exploring it through found footage films. Gonjiam does that. A group of YouTubers goes into a haunted asylum to explore for a horror web series.
In return, they get to explore more than they could chew. I am not much of a believer in ghosts. But this movie was nightmarish. Had to keep lights on for a few days (I live alone, bro!). Gonjiam’s build-up isn’t slow, but it can give you creeps quite fast. If you’re daring enough to watch it alone with the lights off, you’re gonna get spooked by some of the best audio design existing into the world of horror movies.

Satan’s Slaves 1 & 2
Joko Anwar’s horror films have a tendency to merge great horror stories into everyday Indonesian lives with such subtlety that the audience can feel them hitting close to home. The franchise I mentioned here is a take voodoo-styled zombie story. In the film, you’re introduced to the heir of Satan and a secret society looking for him. In the whole cycle, an innocent family gets wrapped up.
But I loved the sequel more. While the first part is scary, the sequel really does some amazing work with its atmosphere and delivers some of the best scare factor. The whole thing happens in an isolated apartment building cut off from the bigger world due to a storm. There’s no power, no hospital, and no police either. Folks here are surrounded by spirits looking for any chance to devour them and drag them to hell.
