I reviewed the first episode of Twelve yesterday, and you must have noticed my disappointment from my review. On the contrary, IMDB shows an 8.4 rating combined for two episodes. But there are only almost 80 ratings for now, so I am kind of waiting for it to get more popular so I can see whether it’s just me nitpicking or the show actually turned out to be a disappointment, at least for two episodes. Anyway, let me share my Twelve Episode 2 review.
But first, let’s have a Twelve Episode 2 Recap
Mind you, there are spoilers ahead. But you won’t miss much even if you end up reading them. There’s just not much happening that takes the story too far.
The second episode opens with Tae-san thinking about his past when he and his fellow angels were almost murdered by a bunch of scared villagers. Since then, these folks decided not to meddle in the affairs of humanity.
On the other hand, Sa-min and O-gwi are plotting the dominance of the human world. O-gwi’s character hints at how Sa-min isn’t a trustworthy protege and threatens him, which clearly hints at the betrayal that might occur in the future.
Sa-min, during this conversation, also talks about three soul stones that would unlock Hae-tae’s power for O-gwi to leverage.
Now, if you have watched Twelve’s episode 1, you might know that these angels have lost most of their power, which still didn’t get dangerous too often for them, until the second episode brought a bunch of supernatural evil beings working for Sa-min, the evil priest.
Before you know it, these angels are getting badly beaten up while Tae-san isn’t around. The episode ends with Marok reaching them by the end of the episode. By the way, another dull action sequence dominated the screen for a few minutes before the angels got defeated. This whole fight scene was way weaker than what tons of K-dramas have already done.
Take action sequences of the show The Worst of Evil, the show presented them so well that you will want to watch them instead of waiting for them to be concluded. In Twelve, I wanted to see the story progress with a little speed. I was hoping too much.
Now, Here’s my Twelve Episode 2 Review
I will give it 2.5 out of 5 again, just like the first episode. Tons of reasons are there why I am rating it low. First, it picked the theme that has some of the best K-dramas in existence. As I said in my previous review, we have titles like Goblin, Hotel Del Luna, Angel’s Last Mission: Love, etc. All these shows managed to pair beautiful storytelling with great scripts and delivered masterpieces you can always revisit. These shows set a standard that almost every K-drama about supernatural beings will have to counter.
Twelve lacks the divinity that these Supernatural Korean dramas had.
Twelve is failing to achieve that. It’s more focused on using the theme of angels and supernatural evil as the backdrop of the story, with action sequences and humor being its core features.
With occasional zoom-ins on O-gwi’s red eyes and shots of him using his wings, the show desperately attempts to hold its audience for the future. I know my review might sound harsh, but for a cast this amazing (Love Ma Dong-seok in everything he does), I hope the show picks up.
For two episodes, it hasn’t given me a reason to come back to it with excitement and thrill. But I will review it and plenty of other Korean dramas from August, so you can decide whether you want to go ahead or not.
But, you’re always free to counter my opinion or share your own.
