Another month, another list of new K-dramas to look forward to. And guess what? The list of new K-dramas in August 2025 brings royalty as well as fantasy to the OTTs. I guess that gives you all the more reasons to get excited for?
In my experience, August has always been exciting for Korean dramas. If we talk about the K-dramas from August 2024, we had some of the best titles like Bad Memory Eraser, Romance in the House, Pachinko S02, Black Out, etc.
Fast forward to one year in 2025, this month has brought us a cuisine that serves spicy, sweet, as well as sour.
So, let’s have a look!
Top Korean Dramas in August 2025
Mary Kills People
Premiere Date: August 1, 2025
Where to Watch: MBC
Genre: Crime, Medical Thriller
Cast: Lee Bo-young, Lee Min-ki, Kang Ki-young
The plot of Mary Kills People follows Lee Bo-young as Dr. Woo So-jung, an ER doctor secretly helping terminally ill patients end their lives. She’s joined by Kang Ki-young as her colleague and Lee Min-ki as a detective with his own health struggles, hot on her trail.
There was a Canadian show existing of the same name. This K-drama is a direct remake of the same, with, of course, some Korean touch. If you love thrillers, staying on the edge, and stories where romance isn’t the prime focus, you will definitely love Mary Kills People.
Director Park Joon-woo, the genius behind Taxi Driver, is bringing his A-game, so expect intense vibes and stellar performances.
My Lovely Journey
Premiere Date: August 2, 2025
Where to Watch: Channel A, Viki
Genre: Slice of Life, Romance
Cast: Gong Seung-yeon, Yoo Jun-sang, Kim Jae-young, Hong Soo-hyun
This slice-of-life drama has been turning heads since its casting announcement. Following a travel blogger who discovers love while documenting Korea’s hidden gems, it’s filmed in 15 different locations across the country. I actually visited three of these locations myself last summer, and the cinematography is going to blow your mind.
Those scenes, paired with amazing filmmaking, are just one of many reasons why it stands among the most exciting K-dramas coming out in August 2025.
The production team of My Lovely Journey worked with local communities to showcase authentic Korean culture beyond Seoul. You’ll discover places even seasoned K-drama fans haven’t seen before.
In this show, Yoo Jun-sang plays a quirky ex-manager, and her chemistry with ong Seung-yeon as Kang Yeo-reum is giving me Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha feels. Adapted from a Japanese novel, it’s all about healing through travel and human connection.
Beyond the Bar
Premiere Date: August 2, 2025
Where to Watch: JTBC, Netflix
Genre: Legal Drama, Rom-Com
Cast: Lee Jin-wook, Jung Chae-yeon, Lee Hak-joo, Jeon Hye-bin
It’s been a while since good legal Korean dramas were dropped, right? Well, Beyond the Bar is coming on August 2 with a mixture of ingredients like romance, comedy, great chemistry between leads, and so much legal drama.
Beyond the Bar follows a disgraced prosecutor who opens a neighborhood law firm to help those who can’t afford legal representation. The writer, who penned “Vincenzo,” brings that same blend of humor and justice.
Love, Take Two
Premiere Date: August 4, 2025
Where to Watch: tvN
Genre: Family Drama, Romance
Cast: Yum Jung-ah, Park Hae-joon, Choi Yoon-ji, Kim Min-kyu
Rom-com lovers, this one’s for you! This feels like “When Harry Met Sally” meets “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha.” The story of divorced film directors who must work together on a project hits all the right notes of comedy and chemistry.
Here’s the fun part: the leads of Love, Take Two actually took filmmaking classes for three months to prepare for their roles. Their dedication shows in every scene.
Yum Jung-ah plays Lee Ji-an, a single mom running a construction site while butting heads with her medical student daughter (Choi Yoon-ji). Paired with Park Hae-joon as Ji-an’s first love, stirring up old feelings and new romance with his son (Kim Min-kyu) in tow.
The show will remind you of Reply 1988’s warmth, blending family bonds with second-chance love. The shenanigans of this drama might sound familiar to some of you.
Our Golden Days
Premiere Date: August 9, 2025
Where to Watch: KBS2
Genre: Family Drama, Romance
Cast: Jung Il-woo, Jung In-sun, Yoon Hyun-min, Chun Ho-jin, Lee Tae-ran
Set in 1988 Seoul, Our Golden Days is a pool of nostalgia from the past (For the kids of the 20th century). It follows five families living in the same neighborhood. Having grown up in Korea during this era, I can vouch for the authenticity of the set design and costumes. The attention to detail is extraordinary – from the vintage electronics to the popular snacks of that time.
Jung Il-woo stars as Lee Ji-hyeok, a businessman who loses it all and returns home to reconnect with his roots, joined by Jung In-sun and Yoon Hyun-min. It’s a sprawling tale of love, friendship, and redemption that screams My Love from the Star vibes.
I love long-form dramas that let you live with the characters, and with this cast, I’m ready to get emotionally invested. If you’re into stories that feel like a warm family reunion, this one’s for you.
My Troublesome Star
Premiere Date: August 18, 2025
Where to Watch: ENA
Genre: Romance, Mystery
Cast: Uhm Jung-hwa, Song Seung-heon, Lee El, Oh Dae-hwan
This enemies-to-lovers story between a top actor and his new manager might sound clichéd, but it isn’t. The chemistry between the leads is off the charts, and the peek behind the entertainment industry curtain feels refreshingly honest.
Uhm Jung-hwa plays Im Se-ra, a former actress who vanished after a tragedy and returns after 25 years as a middle-aged woman with no memory as Bong Cheong-ja. Song Seung-heon’s brooding detective Dokgo Cheol helps her unravel her past, and their healing romance is giving me While You Were Sleeping chills.
Aema
Premiere Date: August 22, 2025
Where to Watch: Netflix
Genre: Period Drama, Comedy
Cast: Lee Ha-nee, Bang Hyo-rin, Jin Seon-kyu, Cho Hyun-chul
All the fun just gets better with this next title set in the period era. The show got this The Handmaiden energy with a feminist twist. A fair warning, if you’re below 18, Aema isn’t a K-drama you should watch.
Lee Ha-nee plays top actress Jung Hui-ran, competing with nightclub dancer Sin Ju-ae (Bang Hyo-rin) for the lead in Madame Aema, Korea’s first erotic film. Jin Seon-kyu and Cho Hyun-chul round out the cast, bringing humor and heart to this tale of ambition and rivalry. I’m obsessed with how it tackles 1980s misogyny with wit, and Lee Ha-nee’s fierce performance is already trending on X. Search “Aema K-drama” to see why fans are going gaga over the show!
By the way, the frames look beautiful in each scene. Check the trailer, and you will know!
Twelve
Premiere Date: August 23, 2025
Where to Watch: Disney+, KBS2
Genre: Supernatural Action, Fantasy
Cast: Ma Dong-seok, Park Hyung-sik, Seo In-guk, Sung Dong-il, Kang Mi-na
After Goblin and Angel’s Last Mission: Love, I don’t remember seeing any K-drama I loved about angels or Gods. There might be some, but I didn’t get the chance. This new Korean drama, coming in August 2025, Twelve, is definitely a show I am dying to watch.
But it’s not just the fact that there are 12 angels in this show trying to save Korea from the evil forces; it’s the fact that Disney+ is involved in the production that makes me more excited. The last show that came out on Disney+, Light Shop, was epic. So was Moving, which featured superheroes and a great BGM.
Disney+ and KBS2 bring the heat on August 23, 2025, with this supernatural action-fantasy. Ma Dong-seok and Park Hyung-sik lead an ensemble of 12 zodiac-inspired angels battling demonic forces on the Korean Peninsula.
With Seo In-guk, Sung Dong-il, and Kang Mi-na, this high-concept epic is like Guardian: The Lonely and Great God on steroids. The mythology and jaw-dropping action have me hyped, and I’m betting Ma Dong-seok’s larger-than-life presence will steal the show. This is the fantasy fix you didn’t know you needed.
Bon Appétit, Your Majesty
Premiere Date: August 23, 2025
Where to Watch: tvN, Netflix
Genre: Fantasy, Romance, Comedy
Cast: Im Yoon-ah (Yoona), Lee Chae-min, Kang Han-na, Choi Gwi-hwa
Also known as The Tyrant’s Chef, this tvN and Netflix gem premieres August 23, 2025, and it’s my top pick. Im Yoon-ah (Yoona) plays Yeon Ji-young, a modern chef who time-travels to Joseon and becomes the royal chef for a food-obsessed tyrant king (Lee Chae-min). With Kang Han-na and Choi Gwi-hwa, it’s a hilarious, romantic, and culinary delight. As a foodie who’s botched plenty of recipes, I’m dying to see Yoona’s modern dishes shake up the royal court. Think Mr. Queen, but with more food porn—this one’s a feast for your eyes and heart.
They say there’s some good budget that went into making costumes. Let’s see when Bon Appétit, Your Majesty comes out, whether it was worth the hype and the money or not.
