Just finished two episodes of Bon Appétit Your Majesty, and I have to tell you, if you’re planning to watch the show, don’t hold yourself back- it’s brilliant! Netflix released Bon Appétit Your Majesty ep 1 on Aug 23 and ep 2 on Aug 24, 2025. I watched both together after the second episode was launched, and it turned out to be much better than I thought. But before I continue with and expand on my Bon Appétit Your Majesty review, I have to warn you of spoilers. So, continue at your own risk!

I wasn’t expecting to see only 1 review on IMDB, to be honest. It shows probably you’re probably sleeping on one of the greatest Korean dramas of August. On the contrary, Twelve on Disney+ was launched this week, too, and I must confess, this dominates Twelve on every level. But to understand why, you will go and read my Twelve review I posted yesterday.
Bon Appétit, Your Majesty is Packed with Flavors!
Let me give you a Bon Appétit, Your Majesty Episode 1 and 2 Recap first!
I am not overstating it when I say this show is as good as it looks in the trailer. It starts with Im Yoon-ah’s funny af character Yeon Ji-yeong being taken to the tyrant King Lee Heon, played by Lee Chae-Min, as a prisoner. Then the story begins as a flashback.
Im Yoon-ah, who was just about to lead a restaurant as a 3-Michelin-star chef, accidentally travels back to the Joseon dynasty. But her unawareness of the situation kicks off a whole series of jokes, which also include kicking, hitting, and bullying the tyrant himself. You will get some vibes of Mr. Queen from the humor. I won’t tell you the whole thing, it’s quite funny, and you have to experience it yourself if you actually care about the show.
But the whole thing isn’t comedy. There are dark secrets and conspiracies, too. And in all the chaos, the drama manages to show how regressive old societies and some traditions were in ancient Korea (or the whole world, for that matter!).
The Chemistry Between Im Yoon-ah and Lee Chae-Min Really Boosts the Appetite
Both talented actors have managed to do their jobs well. Yoona as Ji-yeong is absolutely magnetic. Her comedic timing makes the fish-out-of-water story believable, while Lee Chae-min brings depth to a King who could have easily been one-dimensional.
The cast as a whole feels well-chosen, and the chemistry between the leads carries both tension and charm. Add to that the production quality, the detailed palace sets, stunning costumes, and beautifully shot food sequences, and you get a drama that’s visually and emotionally satisfying. Jang Tae Yoo, the mind behind My Love from Another Star and Bokjeingan, has added another star to his portfolio for sure.
As for Bon Appétit, Your Majesty Rating…
I can’t give it anywhere below 4.5 out of 5. The 0.5 rating I deducted for this trend, Netflix has started following for its shows, not releasing all episodes at once. But anyway, you will find me dropping reviews as soon as new episodes are launched. So you can decide whether the next one is worth it or not.
