Shoojit Sircar’s take on Arjun Sen’s memoir ‘Raising A Father’ is marking its name as one of the best book adaptations. This movie titled ‘I Want to Talk’, well, has lots of soul and love poured into it. So yes, my movie review is definitely going to be a positive one- and there might be spoilers ahead, so read it, more like an I Want to Talk’s recap, once you have watched Ahilya Bamroo’s debut movie. It’s on Prime Video.
I Want to Talk Reviews are Right, It Deserved More Attention
It’s a sad fact that the movie is called a box office failure. Given the kind of love Shoojit puts into his movies, it deserves a better chance. Now that it’s available on Prime Video, I hope it gets the love it deserves, because honestly, for me it remains close to Shoojit’s previous works like October and Piku.
And I am not the only one who thinks that; look for critics’ reviews on Google and that’s all you will find- the praise. So despite having such great movie reviews, how did I want to talk miss the box office attention it deserved? Well, probably the marketing. People just didn’t get to know about it so well.
Personally, my source for the movie was Ahilya’s Instagram, also a beautiful friend who doesn’t gatekeep beautiful movies or shows to herself.
Ahilya Bamroo’s Movie Debut has that Charm So Raw, So Real….

Have been a fan of her for a while now, since her first accent video came to my feed. Once she announced her movie debut with Shoojit Sircar’s latest, it was an exciting moment, and honestly, a proud one too for her fans (including me). If you know her, you know we made the right person famous.
I cannot stress enough how memorable Ahilya Bamroo’s debut is. She shines in every scene with a captivating aura, playing her part with an earnestness that feels oh-so-real. There’s a refreshing vulnerability to her performance—like she’s channeling raw, unfiltered emotion rather than just “acting.” Through Ahilya, you see Reya’s hopes and fears etched across her face, making it almost impossible not to root for her.
Ahilya portrays depth with the kind of ease that many seasoned actors spend years trying to perfect. Her ability to connect with co-stars and bring out the best in every scene showcases her undeniable star quality. Now that it has begun, hoping to see her more often on the silver screen.
Abhishek Bachchan, as Always, Delivers Brilliance Beautifully

One of the finest names in Bollywood, whether it’s Paa, Bob Biswas, or Ludo, you can’t deny the fact that Abhishek leaves a mark. In his hall of fame, now I want to talk can be added too. He portrayed Arjun Sen’s on-screen character with brutal honesty.
It has balance and love. You can clearly see that he did his research on perfecting the character. There was a graceful display of effects as Arjun’s medical journey progressed and the number of surgeries grew.
But it’s not the tale of Arjun’s struggles, it’s the tale of his resilience, and Abhishek understood that. He kept that motivated spirit alive through his take on Arjun and gave us an onscreen presence that is inspiring as well as memorable.
I Want to Talk Casting by Karan Wadhwa is Brilliant
Karan Wadhwa, the casting director behind Ahilya’s movie debut, deserves a standing ovation for assembling such a talented and cohesive cast. Every actor feels perfectly chosen for their role, and the chemistry between them elevates the film to another level.
Ahilya Bamroo’s casting as Reya in the movie, the heart of the story, is undoubtedly the highlight. It’s refreshing to see a debutante bring such raw, unfiltered energy to the screen. Her scenes with Abhishek Bachchan feel so authentic, that you forget you’re watching actors and not a real father-daughter duo navigating life’s challenges.
Pearle Dey, or the little Reya, as the world will know her from now enhances the emotional tone of the movie with her presence. Her portrayal of Reya is embodied with the childlike innocence that, as an audience, you can see in a curious child stuck between divorced parents.
The supporting cast deserves immense credit for their exceptional performances, each actor seamlessly blending into their roles and adding depth to the story. Kristin Goddard, as Nancy, brings a subtle grace and warmth to her character, perfectly complementing the emotional weight of the narrative.
Johny Lever, with his impeccable timing, provides moments of much-needed levity, reminding us why he remains one of the finest performers in the industry. Every actor, no matter how big or small their role, feels like an essential piece of this heartfelt puzzle, contributing to the film’s authenticity and emotional impact.
I Want to Talk Songs by Taba Chake Add a Soulful Symphony
Musafir, Gum Ho Kahan, Pal Ye Mere, Dil Ghabraye, and Manzil Ki Ore are accompanying this beautiful compilation of frames by Shoojit Sircar. Probably one of the best decisions was to bring Taba Chake on board for I Want to Talk Songs. His music does justice and as you’re experiencing the movie, you will know what I mean.
If somehow, the story or the characters aren’t able to leave an emotional impact while you’re watching (which is highly unlikely), Taba’s songs will do the job. But you will also end up finding new songs to add to your crying-in-the-car playlist.
