Harikatha Review: Vishnu’s Dashavatar Gets a Thrilling Web Series Spin

The latest web series, Harikatha is an absolute banger I recently had the pleasure of watching from the Indian cinema. Here’s my Harikatha review, if you’re planning to watch it. Directed by Maggi Yodha, Harikatha is a gut-wrenching social commentary on casteism and crimes against women in the country. Using the folktale of Lord Vishnu’s Dashavatar, the plot weaves an absolutely unique tale of justice and revenge.

But before digging deeper into this Harikatha’s plot, I must warn you- there are spoilers.

Some spoilers that you will not want to know about before watching the show. So take my word, you will love this six-episode brilliance.

Harikatha’s Cast is Cherry on the Cake

Rajendra Prasad as Rangachari and Srikanth in Harikatha Review, a Telugu web series inspired by Dashavatar

Every story, no matter how great it is, needs great delivery. In Harikatha’s case, the cast multiplies the overall charm of the show. Rajendra Prasad as Rangachari was my favorite role along with Suman Jha as Das aka Hari. Both dominated every second of on-screen presence and did justice to their characters so well. Rajendra leads a drama company in the movie that tells villagers tales of Vishnu’s avatars.

As they tell stories, murders happen. But I won’t tell you more about the plot.

Spoiler warning, once again!

I want to express my appreciation for Suman for the beauty he brought into his avatars through his acting. Especially as Krishna, his display of rage was a goosebump moment- absolute perfection!

It’s rare to see an actor embody the divine and the human so convincingly, and Suman delivers with a power that stays with you.

For Suman, this could be the moment shaping his acting career towards a much more successful path. Along with him, Divi Vadthya and Srikanth were perfect in their roles as well, delivering an overall banger of a show!

Harikatha Has Just Enough Episode

The best decision Maggi and the production team made was keeping episodes less. It helped deliver the story without stretching it. Every moment was an important layer of the story, required to be told. However, in some scenes, minor flaws in the production quality could be noticed. But again, the story, cast, and everything great about the show overshadows all the flaws.

I even love the BGM– except for the goofy music background for Ajay. Not sure if he was funny or he was meant to be funny, but he had a perfect cop-villain vibe.

Here’s the thing though- things start heating up quite fast after the first episode. So keep tissues, if you’re as sensitive as me, you’re definitely going to cry.

Harikatha Reviews are Pouring Love

Honestly, I am not sure how critics’ reviews work- I am a fan. Like yourself. Every now and then I end up finding great shows and movies that most critics talk negatively about, and I end up loving them as well. In Harikatha’s case, I haven’t seen too many negative reviews. It’s a great thing. Because the show is brilliant.

What stands out to me is how Harikatha has the potential to become a conversation starter. Not just for its storytelling but for its unflinching take on real-world issues.

So the final verdict is, it’s a great addition to this year’s catalog of new releases. Go and stream Harikatha on Hotstar.

But before that, subscribe to CineCinnati. My hunt for great titles to enjoy is a neverending journey.
