I am always updating this list of Best Thai Horror Movies as I find new gems, so keep coming for new recommendations every now and then!
Looking for spine-chilling stories that scare the shi** out of you?
You came to the right place!
Thai horror movies take the cup when it comes to displaying horror that feels more authentic, and close to home. If you have had local folktales, and ghost stories, running around in your community, you might know what I am talking about.
The world of Thai movies might not be big budget, but when it comes to storytelling, movies like Inhuman Kiss, The Medium, Dorm, etc can challenge any big-budget movie out there.
I personally believe while horror movies can be comedy too, the best ones I have found that remain original to the loss and emotional journey paranormal activities offer. So, the movies that you will meet in this list, might not just scare you, but also break your heart seeing the fate of the focused characters.
One thing you must remember while watching the top Thai horror movies is, that most of these often take inspiration from local stories, something you might have heard of, something you might have not. So it could get disturbing as these stories unfold themselves.
The trick is to convince yourself that it’s all, you know, not real! Or, is it? 😏

Let’s Check Out These Best Thai Horror Movies!
The Medium
Streaming on: Amazon Prime
Release date: July 14, 2021
I came across this movie on Prime recently and had no expectations or idea of the plot. I am so glad I didn’t. This movie turned out to be a great surprise.
Imagine if The Office had ghosts, exorcists, shamans, and tribes. That’s what The Medium is, but entirely serious. The plot is from the perspective of a documentary crew that is interviewing a Shaman and her family members. Coincidentally, during their investigation, things start happening and they become not only the witness of these incidents, but also part of them.
That’s it, I won’t reveal anything more. You gotta check out the movie yourself, you will thank me for the recommendation!
Inhuman Kiss
Streaming On: Netflix
Release date: March 14, 2019
This Thai horror film is something I found randomly as well. Another movie that kept me hooked from the beginning to the end. The plot focuses on a village that is troubled by a flying demon head called Krasue in the local tongue.
The movie revolves around four childhood friends, who as grew up, had their own lives. Krasue, however, was the thread that kept them attached to each other. The timeline is of World War II and the village has no medical staff except one of these friends Sai. As Krasue grows powerful, Sai and her friends become the center of the trouble.
Explore the movie not only for its supernatural element but also for the deviancy of humans.
It has much more to offer than you are expecting!
Dorm
Streaming On: Netflix
Release Date: February 23, 2006
Ton, a young Thai boy makes a new friend in his boarding school. Little did he know, it was not the kind of friendship he had expected. Released in 2006, Dorm sets up an eerie environment in a school that is haunted by ghost stories. As we explore the drama, we find out how many of these stories are real, and how many are not.
Directed by Songyos Sugmakanan, the movie has received praise in critics’ reviews for its visuals, editing, and plot. But what makes this movie great is not its ability to scare, but to take you on a bandwagon of emotions.
Nang Nak
Streaming On: Netflix
Release Date: July 23, 1999
The legend of Nak is a popular folklore in Thailand. There have been plenty of TV shows and movies based on this tale. But Nang Nak offers a realistic yet more interesting approach to the story.
The plot is about a war veteran who returns home to his wife and the kid just to find out something weird is going on. There’s romance but tragedy is lurking around secretly. The great cinematography is blended with amazing acting making it what you might call a horror’s artwork.
Shutter
Streaming On: Netflix
Release Date: September 9, 2004
A young photographer named Thun and his girlfriend, Jane, experience a traumatic hit-and-run accident. Soon after, Thun begins to notice strange shadows and ghostly images appearing in his photographs. As the couple investigates, they uncover a dark and disturbing secret connected to Thun’s past.
The spirit haunting them seeks revenge, and Thun must confront his past actions and the consequences they have wrought. The film’s eerie atmosphere and spine-chilling revelations build up to a shocking and terrifying climax.
Pee Chong Air (The Sisters)
Streaming On: Mubi
Release Date: March 4, 2004
2004 has been a great year for fans of the best Thai horror movies.
The plot centers on a group of teenage musicians who, after a performance outside Bangkok, check into a hotel room that harbors a deadly secret. Years earlier, a prostitute named Saengdao was brutally murdered and decapitated in that room.
Her vengeful spirit now haunts the hotel, targeting the band members who must solve the mystery behind her death to survive. The film incorporates elements reminiscent of “The Grudge” and similar horror classics, creating a chilling atmosphere of supernatural terror.
While the production budget is not great, the movie offers realism in the horror atmosphere. For horror fans, that might be the cherry on the cake making the movie scarier than it was intended to.
Well, for now, these are the gems I am familiar with, I will keep updating this list with more classics and new releases as I come across them!
