HBO’s The Franchise Trailer Unleashes a Hilarious Satire of Hollywood’s Superhero Obsession

With The Franchise Trailer, HBO is back with another witty, biting satire, and this time the target is Hollywood’s big-budget superhero franchises. From Veep creator Armando Iannucci, the upcoming comedy series The Franchise promises to deliver an inside look at the chaotic and often ridiculous world behind the scenes of blockbuster filmmaking.

HBO’s Franchise Trailer gives us a sneak peek into a universe where over-the-top egos, Method actors, and superhero stars on HGH take center stage. The show focuses on the crew of an unloved superhero franchise as they battle for relevance in the ruthless world of cinematic universes.

As The Franchise Trailer releases, HBO fans get their first taste of what’s sure to be a hilarious and cutting exploration of the filmmaking process. Moreover, The trailer mocks everything from Method acting to the absurdity of big studio franchises. The show features an all-star ensemble cast, including Aya Cash, Himesh Patel, Jessica Hynes, Billy Magnussen, Lolly Adefope, Darren Goldstein, and Isaac Powell, with Richard E. Grant and Daniel Brühl in recurring roles.

Billy Magnussen, one of the show’s stars, shared with IndieWire how much fun the cast had behind the scenes. 

He also emphasized the importance of the ensemble cast, stating, 

From Veep to The Franchise: Armando Iannucci’s Next Big Hit

Armando Iannucci, who previously skewered the political world with the critically acclaimed Veep, is taking his satirical talents to Hollywood in this latest venture. Teaming up with executive producer Sam Mendes, who also directs the pilot, Iannucci brings his signature sharp wit to the often inflated egos and behind-the-scenes chaos of superhero blockbusters. The series is produced by Dundee Productions in collaboration with Neal Street Productions, with Jon Brown serving as the showrunner.

The Franchise release date is set for October 6 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and will also be available to stream on Max. So mark your calendars, because this is one superhero series that’s going to leave you laughing at the absurdity of it all.
