James Gunn, co-chair of the DCU, has offered new insights into Peacemaker season 2, even as he remains deeply involved in the Superman shooting. Gunn took to his Threads account to address fan questions, providing some much-anticipated updates. After the promising Peacemaker season 1, which also received great critics’ reviews and remains among the top DC shows, this news comes as a much needed treat for the DC fandom.

Gunn confirmed that Peacemaker season 2 will pick up where the first season left off, albeit with “a couple of minor differences.” This came in response to a fan asking whether the new season would continue from the previous one or diverge to signify a non-canon status for the first season.
In another interaction, Gunn clarified the timing of Peacemaker season 2 relative to Superman. He stated, “After. It follows the events of Superman.” With Superman scheduled for release on July 11, 2025, this means Peacemaker season 2 is expected to debut sometime after mid-2025.
Production for the new season has already begun. John Cena will reprise his role as Christopher Smith/Peacemaker, alongside returning cast members Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase/Vigilante, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag St., Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, and Steve Agee as John Economos.
New cast members include David Denman and Sol Rodríguez in undisclosed roles, as well as Saturday Night Live alum Tim Meadows, who will play a member of ARGUS.
Adding to the excitement, a leaked set photo has generated significant buzz. Posted by @j6rdan_yarbr6ugh on Instagram and shared via @DCFilmNews on Twitter, the image features a mural with Peacemaker, White Dragon, and a mysterious DCU character.
Notably, Peacemaker’s costume now includes sleeves, a new helmet, and an inverted logo. White Dragon is depicted in a white and blue suit, suggesting a possible return from the dead. The mysterious character could be Peacemaker’s brother, a new figure, or even Peacemaker himself in a new guise.
Furthermore, Gunn has confirmed that season 2 will be part of the new DCU, distancing itself from the old DCEU. How this transition will be handled remains to be seen.
