I’m beyond excited to report that South Korean heartthrob Lee Do-hyun’s military discharge date is finally here. On May 13, 2025, after serving approximately 21 months, the 30-year-old actor was honorably discharged from the Republic of Korea Air Force, where he served in the military band. His return marks the end of what fans affectionately call his “military hiatus” and the beginning of what promises to be a dazzling new chapter in his career.
Lee’s time in the military didn’t dim his star power. Enlisting on August 14, 2023, he underwent basic training before joining the Air Force’s military band. Even while fulfilling his national duty, I watched his presence dominate screens worldwide.
His film, Exhuma, became a box-office juggernaut, drawing over 11.91 million viewers and earning him the coveted “10-million-actor” title in South Korea.
The film’s chilling narrative captivated audiences, and Lee’s performance was a standout, making the movie count among one of the best Korean horror movies in existence.
Lee’s versatility shone through in other projects, too. I binged TiVo’s original series Death’s Game and Netflix’s Sweet Home Season 3, both released during his service, showcasing his ability to tackle diverse roles.
His haunting performance in Exhuma even earned him the Best New Actor in Film at the 60th Baeksang Arts Awards in 2024. During his acceptance speech, I was touched when he expressed gratitude to his girlfriend, actress Lim Ji-yeon, saying, “Ji-yeon, thank you,” while vowing to return stronger in 2025.
A Love Story That Captivated Fans
Speaking of Lim Ji-yeon, I can’t help but swoon over their romance. The couple’s love story began on the set of Netflix’s hit series The Glory in 2022, where their chemistry was undeniable. Their relationship soon blossomed off-screen, capturing the hearts of fans.
Lim, ever supportive during Lee’s service, shared in a 2024 interview for her film Revolver that she was embracing her role as a “military girlfriend.” “I just want him to stay healthy and come back safely,” she said, her words resonating with fans rooting for their love.
Lee Do-hyun’s Rise to Stardom
I’ve followed Lee’s career since his debut in 2017’s Prison Playbook on tvN, where his raw talent was evident. Since then, he’s built an impressive resume with roles in 18 Again, Sweet Home, and, of course, The Glory.
His ability to embody complex characters has made him a household name in South Korea and a rising global star. I’m not surprised that his discharge has sparked a frenzy of excitement among fans and industry insiders alike.
What’s Next for Lee Do-hyun?
Now that Lee Do-hyun is discharged from the military, I’ve heard whispers of exciting projects on the horizon. Industry sources say he’s already fielding offers for dramas, films, endorsements, and magazine shoots.
His return couldn’t come at a better time, as the Korean entertainment industry continues to dominate global pop culture. I’m eager to see which roles he’ll choose to cement his status as one of Korea’s top actors.
