James Gunn, it turns out, is not solely focused on his Superman project. In parallel, he, along with his co-head buddy of DC Studios Peter Safran, have been eyeing great actors for the legendary Hal Jordan series. According to Green Lantern casting rumors, The myth, the man, the legend—none other than Josh Brolin himself is the new name traveling through the voices in the air.
Initially described as having the charm of True Detective, Lanterns is said to be focused on John Stewart. But that is not going to stop Gunn or the entire DC Studios from bringing plenty of other Lanterns to the show.
Josh Brolin is Hal Jordan?
Among all the details revealed by Nexus Point News and Jeff Sneider‘s latest newsletter, along with some other sources that are fueling the Green Lantern casting rumors, Safran and Gunn are said to have already proposed an offer to Josh Brolin.
The actor’s superhero career includes one of the greatest villains of all time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thanos. So, he is not new to the genre, that’s for sure. But it’s also true that he has had a streak of hits for a while, including Avengers: Infinity War & Endgame, Dune, as well as Deadpool 2. So, one can say, the niche suits him the best.
And being a part of Marvel’s multiverse already—joining the DCEU will add him to the legends that have worked with both studios and earned great fame in the superhero universe. Last I checked, the privilege was quite rare, and that applies to the present too.
Now, before you trust me with all your faith—as much as I am flattered, you must know—these details are a part of Green Lantern casting rumors. So while Josh’s chances are great, and I am quite excited about it—it is a possibility that it could be just a rumor—only the all-knowing god of DC Studios—James Gunn—could enlighten us with the truth behind the rumor. But he is known for his habits of secrecy, so it could be a while before we get something confirmed.
The last time when he pitched Lanterns, Gunn’s words were:
“[…] this is really a terrestrial-based TV show, which is almost like True Detective with a couple of Green Lanterns who are space cops watching over precinct Earth. In it, they discover a terrifying mystery that ties into our larger story of the DCU.”
Now the only thing that has been confirmed until now about the show is that it has found its writers, and those include Chris Mundy of Ozark, Damon Lindelof of Watchmen and Lost, Tom King of DC Comics, along with Justin H. Britt-Gibson, Breannah Gibson, and Vanessa Baden Kelly.
