New Superhero Series of 2024 in a Nutshell: What Fired and What Misfired?

2024 is not just about superhero blockbusters like Deadpool & Wolverine, there are also some of the new superhero series being handed over to us mere humans this year. With eight months in, most of them have already joined the television and OTT platforms and most are yet to reveal themselves.

I will take you through the ones that I have watched and the ones I am yet to watch.

Ready to join in? Let’s go!

New Superhero Series Ranked in No Order

The Umbrella Academy Season 4

Platform: Netflix

The Umbrella Academy Season 4

With six episodes dropped for The Umbrella Academy finale, I had to bid goodbye to these beautiful but fuc**d up heroes on the first day of Season 4’s release. The bittersweet ending of the show wraps up the entire adventure and gives an ending that stands out as an entertaining memory. In season 3, when the gang lost its powers, season 4 speeds up the story past that and quickly wraps up the finale in a much shorter season than its predecessor. I am trying too hard to avoid giving spoilers, don’t want to ruin your surprise, so go and watch instead of waiting for me to reveal more of the plot.

Batman: Caped Crusader

Platform: Amazon Prime

Loved this one! JJ Abrams along with Bruce Timm are the masterminds behind its production with Matt Reeves onboarded as one of the producers. If you have watched The Batman, this noirish show, called Batman: Caped Crusader, will offer you the same vibe.

The take on Batman is a little different in this show. His career almost started a couple of weeks ago, and he looks more realistic and more egoistic than the ones you’re used to watching on the screen. Even Alfred and Bruce’s relationship in this one is more complicated than others. All that is why it became one of the new superhero shows that grabbed my attention quickly.

Supacell

Platform: Netflix

With a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, Supacell comes up with a unique touch of superherocracy. The story focuses on a group of South Londoners suddenly developing superpowers. These not-so-ordinary folks now have new problems to deal with and the show makes that part of the story flawless. Dialogues are brilliant, actors are amazing, and action is mindblowing- what else could a fan like me or you even ask for? Probably a bigger budget but this one worked out just fine. Give it a shot!

My Adventures with Superman

Platform: Amazon Prime

After the beautifully delivered first season, My Adventures with Superman is back with another season to keep folks like you and me busy. The first episode starts with Clark planning Valentine’s for Lois and the last starts with Superman planning to give Brainiac a KO. How has the situation escalated that much? Watch the show bro!

Invincible Season 2

Platform: Amazon Prime

Invincible

Undoubtedly one of the best superhero series of the year, Invincible Season 2 gets darker but brings a new twist to the story as well as to the father-son relationship. The story expands beyond the Planet Earth and the typical plan of planet domination. Give it a watch for all the gore, the glory, and the godly strength it offers. But also give it a watch for the character growth, transformation, and the future that it sets up.

Echo

Platform: Disney Plus

Echo

I won’t exactly count it as one of the best superhero series (no offense to the makers). But listed here because it’s a part of the greater universe and our favorite Daredevil’s future in MCU is linked to this show. Echo also brings back one of the most feared Marvel villains Wilson Fisk AKA Kingpin. You might enjoy this show if you are into action, love female superheroes, and have a thing for Natasha Romanoff-styled kickass adventures.

While most of the new superhero series of the year has received praise, Echo didn’t have much to offer and was treated like a filler by its fans including me. Planning to see what Marvel has to offer in the future, especially for the not-so-silver screens!
