The story is about Jake and Lucy, a couple that has going on more than what we see in the initial frames. As the movie progresses, the morbid reality unveils itself. As we uncover each layer of this universe, questions arise, and realities get confusing.
Jake, the main protagonist of the movie is highlighted as someone who has so much going on. But the movie does not just use him to set up a twisted narrative, instead, it offers empathy and deepness to the character that is complex in a way.
I am thinking of Ending Things is a great blend of amazing storytelling, mysterious direction, and a great narrative that keeps you hooked until the end. Charlie Kaufman directed this movie while Jesse Plemons and Jessie Buckley played the roles of Jake and Lucy.
Frances Ha
The black-and-white comedy from 2012 features Greta Gerwig as Frances. It stands tall among the best indie movies to stream that you might not only find very raw, but also very bumpy. Following the story of Frances in her late twenties in New York, the movie is about making choices between goals and failures.

Hollywood’s wildest horror fantasy has been about killing couples that had sex. It Follows literally follows that, but does it better. The story follows Jay being stalked and chased by an entity that has some issues with young folks having sex. The psychological horror follows a slow-paced progress that builds anxiety.
The movie was released in 2014 and has been directed by David Robert Mitchell. Maika Monroe plays Jay along with supporting stars like Keir Gilchrist, Daniel Zovatto, Jake Weary, and Olivia Luccardi.
The Wonder
This beautiful but dark movie follows Florence Hugh as Lib, a nurse in a post The Great Famine world. She finds this young girl in a village that can miraculously live without eating anything. Lib’s suspicion pushes her to open all the layers of secrets that are hiding behind such a miracle.
But the story is more than just about uncovering the truth. It is filled with political agendas, malicious intents, and deep-buried truths. Watch this movie to find out whether the story is as simple as it sounds. Or there are unexpected twists waiting to take you by surprise.
Hunt for the Wilderpeople
The movie is a joyride of emotions. Here we meet Ricky Baker, a foster boy taken in by a couple named Bella and Hector. While Bella and Ricky grew a close bond, Hector and Ricky didn’t. Soon after Bella’s passing, Ricky is now on the loose.
That leads to the beginning of Hector’s adventure as he chases after him. The screenplay and direction of the movie are done by none other than the Comedy Crafter, Taika Waititi. As for the cast, Julian Dennison is Ricky Baker while Same Neill is accompanying him as Hector.
Blue Jay
Blue Jay is like a pie with different flavors at each layer. The romantic comedy and Amanda, the couple of former high school sweethearts, decide to spend an afternoon hanging out after the passing of twenty or so years.
The story is threaded using the monochrome filter. Despite its aesthetics and charms, be warned, the movie is a simple yet calming experience that includes sprinkles of nostalgia, melancholy and laughs.
You will join the main characters through their conversations, where you feel their experiences, and share their laughs, and their tears. As the story progresses, the direction of Alexandre Lehmann blended with amazing performances by Mark Duplass and Sarah Paulson will keep you rooting for an ending that might happen, or might not!
White Girl
While White Girl might not be a cup of tea for everyone, Elizabeth Wood’s film “White Girl” really packs a punch with its title alone, hinting at the wild ride you’re in for. Imagine a film that throws you into the deep end with its bold scenes—think graphic sex and even more startling displays of unchecked privilege.
Played by Morgan Saylor, the movie centers on Leah, a Midwestern girl gone New York college student, who dives headfirst into her desires without a second thought about the consequences for herself or others.
The Ballad of Buster Scruggs
The Ballad of Buster Scruggs” is a real treat from the Coen Brothers, blending their trademark dark humor with deep dives into the American West. Picture this: six short stories, each with its own flavor. You’ve got Tim Blake Nelson as Buster Scruggs, a singing cowboy who’s as quick with a joke as he is with his gun, and James Franco as a clumsy bank robber—his story’s a hoot.
Then there’s Liam Neeson and Harry Melling in a darker, more poignant tale about a traveling showman and his limbless orator.
