Just watched the movie and as soon the credit screen rolled out, opened my laptop to write this Tikdam review for you. After all, needed to share my excitement with someone!
Probably for the next couple of weeks, my friends are going to hear me saying this multiple times-
“Dude, you’ve got to watch Tikdam!”
It’s one of those movies that sneaks up on you, you know? Like, it doesn’t have all the glitz and glamour of a blockbuster, but man, it hits you right in the feels.
It’s set in this sleepy little hill town called Sukhtal—think of a place where time moves a bit slower, and everyone knows everyone else’s business. The whole vibe is just so peaceful and picturesque, you almost feel like you’re there, breathing in the mountain air. But don’t let the serene setting fool you; this movie’s got some real emotional depth.
So, the main guy, Prakash, played by the very talented Amit Sial, is this dad who’s caught between a rock and a hard place. The hotel he works at shuts down, and suddenly, he’s got to decide whether to stick around for his family or head to the big, bad city for work.
It’s the kind of situation that makes you think about how tough life can get, especially when you’ve got kids depending on you. But here’s where it gets interesting—his kids aren’t just sitting around waiting for things to happen. Oh no, they start coming up with these clever little schemes, these tikdams, to keep him from leaving. It’s like they’ve got this innocent yet determined belief that they can outsmart the grown-ups and keep their family together.
And let me tell you, the way these kids bring humor and heart into the movie is just brilliant. They’re not just cute; they’re the glue holding everything together. Every time the movie feels like it might get too heavy, they pull you back with a laugh or a sweet moment. It’s like watching Home Alone meets Little Miss Sunshine, but with that unique desi flavor, you know?
Amit Sial, who plays the dad, nails the role. You can just feel the weight on his shoulders—the guy is torn between wanting to do right by his family and the harsh realities of life. But it’s the kids that really steal the show. They’re just so natural, so believable, you almost forget they’re acting. And the way they interact with each other? It’s pure gold, like you’re watching real siblings trying to figure out this whole crazy life thing together.
The smartness of Bhanu, the adorable secret language of Cheeni, and the little rebel Samay, these three combined delivered such a stunning screenplay that for me, made Tikdam one of the best Indian movies with a heartfelt plot.
And I really want to appreciate Bhanu’s acting. He perfectly managed to deliver a perfect blend of what we say “an adult in a kid’s body”. Divyanshu Dwivedi as Bhanu was such a rockstar but all the kids did a brilliant job that we might see them often now on the big screen, I hope we do, these kids, especially the trio deserve it so much.
Oh, and the cinematography—don’t even get me started! The shots of the town are so beautiful, you’ll want to pack your bags and move there. It’s like every frame is a postcard, capturing the essence of that small-town life we all secretly crave sometimes.
By the end of it, you’re left with this warm, fuzzy feeling, like you’ve just spent time with old friends. Sure, it’s got its moments of tension and drama, but overall, Tikdam is just this comforting, heartfelt film that’s perfect for a lazy Sunday afternoon. So yeah, grab a drink, kick back, and let Tikdam take you on a little journey. Trust me, it’s worth the trip.
