I was doom scrolling through Netflix in search of something that would be Sunday-worthy, and well, my experience with Thai horror movies compelled me to stop at My Boo. Now, on IMDB, My Boo reviews aggregate a 6/10 score. But I have a different opinion.
The movie delivers exactly what you expect from it, a beautiful romcom that mixes horror and feelings quite well. Here’s the tea though, if you are in the hunt for jumpscares and gores, this one is not for you.
My Boo plot is quite straight forward but it’s the humor that keeps you glued. And of course, Ms. Anong (Maylada Susri) paired with the other two funny ghosts might be the cutest trio of ghosts I encountered in a movie after Casper of course.
My Boo Plot is Funny but Predictable
Well, once you are in the movie, you might find it easy to predict the end. Honestly, I still had fun throughout the entire run time. The My Boo movie begins with a full-time game streamer Joe (Sutthirak Subvijitra) looking to make money out of the house. Him meeting ghosts, and not overreacting sets up a great start. It didn’t take too long to launch the actual premises.
The best thing about the movie is the empathy that almost every focused character had in the movie. As soon as Joe enters the house and meets ghosts, well naturally, he tries to get rid of them. But when he can’t he confronts these three funny ghosts who were really bad at the scaring part.
Soon ghosts and Joe decide to help each other. Joe needed money so ghosts decided to help him build the scariest haunted house in Thailand. In return, Joe agrees to find the remains of these ghosts and help them cross to the afterlife.
Everything was going smoothly, Joe quickly earned good money and repaid his loans. In parallel, however, there was another problem he had to face. His love for Anong was something forbidden, something that would not work out. But it still grew for both.
Throughout the love story, there are tons of cute moments that will make you giggle. Thong Gon and Thong Yib’s funny addition will make you find yourself bursting with laughter, especially their mocking of Anong and Joe’s romantic conversations. 🤣 I get them, I end up feeling the cringe whenever I hear couples talking romantically.
Should you watch My Boo on Netflix?
The answer is yes! It’s a light-hearted romantic comedy that will take you through the ups and downs of emotions. But it’s an experience you definitely should have. And instead of going for critics’ reviews, take it from someone who watches tons of movies, it might not be worthy of the tag ‘Horror’, especially if you are someone into Horror as much as I am, but it still is a fun journey that will make your day better.
